In October 2008, a team of 8 SustCapHill'ers wrote a Department of Neighborhoods grant proposal to work with residents of a mid-size apartment building to create the City's first model low-waste multi-unit building. The grant seeks funds to provide workshops and communitiy building for low-income apartment residents to educate and empower them to reduce solid and hazardous waste and save money by improving recycling habits, enabling food scrap recycling and worm-binning, gardening and the use of home-made, non-toxic household cleaners. The project will be filmed, and made into a professional documentary that will be distributed free of charge to Seattle apartment managers and owners, and world-wide on the internet.
Sustainable Capitol Hill will hear back from the City on our proposal at the end of November.
